At Veterans Benefits Australia, we strive to continue to be a practical source of reputable information for veterans who are seeking services after completing their military service. We understand the challenges that veterans face when it comes to improving their health and recognise the gap in education and support for veterans living with diabetes.
This is why we are excited to have identified a new Diabetes Education Program for veterans! Veterans Benefits Australia will now be able to connect eligible veterans living with Type 2 Diabetes to a new program that will support and guide you on your journey towards optimal health and well-being.
The National Diabetes Education Program has been created by experts who have specialised in diabetes education and management with a deep understanding of the specific needs of veterans. Their holistic approach will be personalised to your unique goals, preferences, and lifestyle (learn to enjoy what you love, while improving your health!).
Why Veterans Benefits Australia believes this program will benefit you:
- Achieve your health goals with a specialised Diabetes Educator
- Understand what diabetes is, how it affects your health, how your medications work, and strategies to increase your quality of life
- How to access a free blood glucose meter delivered straight to your home
- Receive support to reduce the number of medications you need (with the goal of coming off of your insulin completely!)
- Support to achieve diabetes remission
- Information on trialling a continuous glucose monitor (such as the FreeStyle Libre 2)
How is the program delivered?
Telehealth! From your place of work or the comfort of your own home, through Telehealth you can access the expert knowledge of highly experienced credentialled Diabetes Educators from your computer, smartphone, or home phone as it best suits you! Ranging from 5 to 25 minutes, appointments take as long or as little as you like. Each treatment cycle is 12 sessions and there is no limit to the number of treatment cycles you can receive per year.
How to find out more?
Currently, the Diabetes Education Program is only available to Gold Card Holders at this stage and is designed for veterans currently living with pre-diabetes, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, Type 2 Diabetes, Pancreatic diabetes (Type 3c), or medication-induced diabetes.
